Dive into the cave world

The caves in the Bergisches Land region invite you on a journey into the realm of trolls, quartz, and bats. They are particularly attractive destinations in summer, when it's pleasantly cool beneath the earth's surface – and truly fascinating. Stories can be told in caves – of unusual rock formations that spark the imagination, of the forces that shaped the Bergisches Land and its rocks, and of course, of bats and mythical creatures.

The longest public cave in the Rhineland is hidden in Ründeroth. It is an impressive 1.071 meters long – 270 meters of which are accessible to the public. Aggertal Cave It also serves as a venue for concerts and cultural performances. Guided tours last 50 minutes and conclude on Sundays with an impressive musical finale. However, these caves are closed in autumn. That's when the bats arrive to spend the winter underground.

Just a few meters further on is the one discovered in 2019 Wind hole, which is now the largest cave NRWIt is still under exploration and will not be opened to the public in the foreseeable future – the geological treasures found there are too valuable. There are other small caves in the Bergisches Land region, but they are not suitable for an exploration tour into the interior.
