Excursion and holiday tips for families

Dear children, dear families,

Welcome to my home, the beautiful Bergisches Land region. I'm "Berta von Berg," the Bergisches Land cow, and I'm delighted to introduce you to the region. There's so much to do and see in the Bergisches Land.

But first, let's talk about my home region itself. The Bergisches Land, contrary to what its name might suggest, doesn't have very high mountains, but is "only" hilly. However, it's very diverse, with many forests, meadows, lakes, and villages. In summer, you'll find my relatives, the black-and-white Holstein cows, grazing peacefully in the many green meadows, enjoying the idyllic tranquility.

If you've had enough of solid ground, you can visit one of the many lakes and swim, sail, row, or paddleboat, play around, or simply relax on the shore. And if the water is a bit too cold for you, you can simply go to one of the many swimming pools.

Numerous cyclists and hikers are out and about in the forest and on the field paths. Six "Bergische Streifzüge" These are hiking trails specially designed for you children, where one of my friends, the popular mouse from television, accompanies you and explains various topics on information boards.

The extraordinary natural beauty isn't only evident outdoors! During an excursion to one of the two caves You can descend into a mysterious underworld and admire stalactites and stalagmites.

Also a Museum visit It doesn't always have to be boring! In several local history, industrial, and open-air museums, you can weave baskets, felt, do pottery, bake bread, cook delicious Bergische dishes, learn how people lived without electricity a hundred years ago, make paper, and much more.

As you can see, there's plenty to discover in the Bergisches Land region! You can find out more about what else you can do and experience further down.

By the way: We also checked right away to see if there was one Playground for you and everything you need for your younger siblings.

Enjoy!

Yours truly, Bertha
