Music city of the Bergisches Land
Burscheid
Today, approximately 19.000 people live in Burscheid, yet the town has largely retained its Bergisches Land character. In the many villages that, together with the town center and Hilgen, make up Burscheid, one frequently finds the typical half-timbered or slate houses with green shutters. The town center is characterized by the coexistence of historical and modern buildings: Bergisches Land houses, Gründerzeit villas, banks, and commercial and residential buildings.
Although the mills no longer clatter in the valleys, a number of mill buildings still exist. A good example is the Lambertsmühle, which is owned by the city and – thanks to a dedicated support association – has once again been fitted with a waterwheel.
Burscheid is a green town with a high recreational value. It boasts extensive forests, fields, meadows, and waterways, along with a wide range of sports, leisure, cultural, and musical activities. With the newly constructed Balkantrasse panoramic cycle path on the disused railway line, Burscheid has an attractive connection to the regional and national cycle network. NRWFurthermore, a stage of the Bergischer Weg hiking trail runs through Burscheid.
