A history steeped in history
Marienheide
The municipality of Marienheide has a population of approx. 14.000 inhabitants. However, these are not concentrated in the town itself, but are spread across 52 smaller and larger villages surrounding the center. Many of these small villages have a rich history.
The municipality is characterized by a beautiful landscape of forests, lakes, and rolling hills. The mild and pleasant climate contributes to the well-being of visitors to Marienheide and the surrounding area. Marienheide has been a popular tourist destination for over 50 years. Today, the Brucher and Lingese reservoirs, in particular, offer excellent recreational opportunities. Along the many hiking and cycling trails, the stunning natural surroundings – 85 percent of the municipality's area consists of forests, meadows, and waterways – and the elevated location also contribute to relaxation from everyday life. Studies have shown that a visit to Marienheide has a particularly positive effect on health, especially for those suffering from nervous exhaustion and functional circulatory weakness. The tranquility, ample recreational opportunities, and idyllic rural setting further enhance this effect.
