Bever-Block Dams

cycling tours
Guided tour as part of the Bergische Radwoche (Bergisch Cycling Week)
Climate change is bringing the role of dams back into sharper focus. As part of the Bergisches Land Cycling Week, we would therefore like to explore four dams by bicycle and learn about their importance.
From Burscheid, we first cycle along the Balkantrasse Panorama Cycle Route to Wermelskirchen. From there, we continue on the Bergisches Land Panorama Cycle Route along the... Wupper pre-dam to Hückeswagen. Via Mickenhagen we reach the dam of Bever DamFrom there we drive to Neye DamFollowing the unpaved riverside path, we reach the K30, which leads us to the former mining village of Kreuzberg. Silver-bearing lead ores and chalcopyrite were once mined in the surrounding area. Our next destination is the "Silbersee" (Silver Lake), aka...  "Schevelingen" Dam, which are part of the so-called "Bever-Blocks" The Bever Block includes the mill pond Wasserfuhr, the Schevelinger, Neye, and Bever dams. We cycle via Kreuzberg and the K30 to the district road 13.

With magnificent views of the Oberbergische landscape, we roll via Oberröttenscheid to Neye and back into the Wupper valley. Bergisches Panorama Cycle RouteThe return route leads past Hückeswagen and via Wermelskirchen to Burscheid.
