Guided tour by the Friends' Association: The former factory site of Ermen & Engels
The Friends and Supporters of the LVR Industrial Museum Engelskirchen offer guided tours of the former Engelsgarn production site. In 1837, the wealthy textile merchant Friedrich Engels from Barmen and his partner PA Ermen founded the Ermen & Engels cotton spinning mill in Engelskirchen. They modeled it on English factories, which were pioneers in the production of modern cotton textiles at the time.
During the tour of the grounds, visitors will learn more about the old production facilities, the historic hydroelectric power plant, and the history of the cotton mill. The founder's famous son, the communist thinker Friedrich Engels Jr., will also play a role.
