Mill Day at Oelchenshammer
Join us when one of the last remaining blacksmith's hammer mills in the Rhineland opens its doors. The over 200-year-old Oelchenshammer mill offers a fascinating glimpse into the art of refining iron into steel using fire and water. Watch the blacksmith prepare for forging. What does it take to get this ancient technique working? The tilt hammer itself will be stationary, but the blacksmith can still work, crafting fire tools such as scrapers, shovels, and spears.
In an open creative workshop with Eva Schönefeld, children can learn what else can be powered by water.
Food and drinks will be provided.
