The Labyrinth of Homburg Castle
Themed event
There were once over 100 grass labyrinths in Germany. Labyrinths have a very long tradition. They served as playgrounds and dance halls at special festivals and as sites for sacred rituals. They were used as miniature pilgrimage routes or as places for inner reflection, allowing people to explore essential elements of their own lives. Even today, labyrinths exert a special fascination, and many people love them. As Gernot Candolini writes, when they see one, they want to walk it – without intention, without a goal, without reason. Simply to see how the path unfolds, how it feels, where it leads. This journey is always connected with curiosity, and in the end, labyrinths can also bestow strength and confidence.
This afternoon, you are invited to explore the lawn labyrinth in front of Homburg Castle with me and to deepen your experiences in a variety of creative and meditative ways in the Red House of the Biological Station. Along the way, you will learn many interesting facts about the long and eventful history of labyrinths.
