We'll meet at 12:00. in front of the church of St. Pankratius in 51519 Odenthal, Altenberger-Dom-Straße 51.
After a brief visit to the church and the adjacent cemetery, we will proceed to the nearby "Witches' Fountain." There, I will give a presentation followed by a possible discussion, in which we will address the following intriguing questions:
Where does the belief in witches come from?
What was life like in the Early Modern period, and how could the monstrous mass persecutions of "witches" have occurred?
What role did the small village of Odenthal play in these circumstances?
Afterwards, we continue our hike along the Dhünn river, passing a viewpoint overlooking Strauweiler Castle, and then ascend to the alleged "witch dance sites" near Odenthal-Glöbusch. From there, we return to our starting point through a wildly romantic gorge.
The route is only about 5 km long, however there is a longer steep climb from the valley up to Glöbusch – a certain level of basic fitness is therefore recommended.
Afterwards, there will be a joint stop at the "Herzogenhof"planned, where from 15 pm onwards we can order delicious Bergische waffles in various variations or other regional specialties.
The hike will only take place in dry weather and with a minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 16 participants (in order of registration)!
There is a participation fee of 10 euros per person in cash gebeten.
At the Herzogenhof, you order whatever you like at your own expense.
I look forward to you!!
