Our drinking water, a precious resource. A themed hike to the dam of the Große Dhünn reservoir.

For people in industrialized nations, clean drinking and utility water is taken for granted. The numerous reservoirs of the Bergisches Land region hold back this water, thus regulating its flow. The Große Dhünn Reservoir is the largest drinking water reservoir in western Germany. Its natural surroundings provide a wonderful habitat for rare plants and certain bird species. From the densely wooded valleys below the Große Dhünn Reservoir, we hike to the dam. There, we visit the "Water Connects" exhibition in the new Forum :aqualon Lindscheid. Afterward, we hike back to our starting point. Learn interesting facts about the catchment area, the reservoir's management and water treatment, and the function of the dam.
