Where commitment meets enjoyment - the Hauderei in the heart of Waldbröl, run by volunteers for everyone!

The last café in Waldbröl closed in 2022, affecting both operators and customers.
At the same time, a civic engagement developed that is unique in Waldbröl. People came together and looked for a solution to preserve the Waldbröl café.

A cooperative was established as the organizational form. Other already successful concepts for saving pubs and restaurants (e.g., Bergneustadt and Hülsenbusch) provided encouragement.
A public appeal selected a name for the new café and bistro with historical references to Waldbröl and the Hochstraße, where until about 100 years ago there was a company for goods transport and pleasure rides with carriages, which was also called Hauderei.

Thus, in 2023, the founding of HAUDEREI Café & Bistro eG was organized with all the associated work, and the premises were also given a fresh ambience.
A fresh coat of paint and the lovingly furnished interior reflect the commitment and many hours of work that the volunteers have put in to present the HAUDEREI as a modern yet cozy café and bistro.

On September 8, 2023, the HAUDEREI was officially opened with a grand opening celebration. Many adventurous, successful, and sometimes bumpy days followed, during which everyone worked with enthusiasm and the goal of making guests' stay at the HAUDEREI as pleasant as possible.

The café
A good day begins with a delicious breakfast, served from 9 am. The morning starts with freshly prepared coffee specialties and a sweet or savory breakfast to sweeten the day for our guests.
Every second Thursday, market day in Waldbröl, the café opens at 6:30 am.
A small but hearty selection of dishes is available at lunchtime. This includes tarte flambée, potato cakes, and daily specials such as soups or stews.
In the afternoon, the volunteer baking team treats guests to homemade cakes and tarts or fresh waffles.

The Bistro
From 18 pm onwards, the café transforms into a cozy bistro, offering a variety of small dishes alongside fresh draft beer or selected wines.
On special occasions, we offer seasonal dishes such as kale, asparagus, etc., which our kitchen crew prepares in a delicious, Oberberg-style manner on a voluntary basis.

Promotions & Events
Furthermore, the HAUDEREI cooperative is particularly committed to making the venue available for artistic and musical performances, as well as serving as a meeting place and a platform for strengthening civic engagement. A variety of formats, including readings, game nights, and cabaret performances, have become established. An open bluegrass session takes place every second Wednesday of the month from 2:19.00 p.m. to 21:30 p.m.
If you are interested in using the premises for your initiative, please get in touch. info@hauderei.de

Volunteering
The HAUDEREI cooperative thrives on the commitment of all its volunteers. So far, 50 to 60 active members support the project.
We need more people who enjoy supporting the project with their commitment. This includes everyone who comes to visit us as guests, whether from near or far.

The Hauderei team is delighted to welcome you as a guest at HAUDEREI.
