During a hike on the Bergisches Panorama Trail, it's well worth taking a break at the rustic Mühlencafé Jaeger in Nespen – as this is the end point of the 8th stage of this quality long-distance hiking trail.
The café has been operating since 2014 and is run jointly with the three-story mill by the Jaeger family, who are especially known for their delectable cakes. For groups, the menu is expanded to include breakfast and stews, the traditional Bergische Kaffeetafel (a coffee and cake spread), and, weather permitting, a variety of barbecue buffets. Meals are served in the rustically furnished parlor.
The old grain mill stands right next door. First mentioned in 1749, it was originally powered by a waterwheel driven by an approximately 8000-meter-long millrace. All the drive, cleaning, and milling mechanisms are fully preserved, and some of the equipment is powered by an electric motor for demonstrations. - The Mühlencafé Nespen is located in the small village of Reichshof-Nespen, above the Wiehl reservoir in the Bergisches Land region. Surrounded by greenery, the historic mill is a popular stop for hikers, cyclists, and day-trippers.
Arriving by car is straightforward: The café can be reached in a few minutes via the A4 motorway (Reichshof/Bergneustadt exit).
Free parking is available on site.
The café is also easily accessible by public transport. A bus stop is just a 7-minute walk away and connects the café to the Waldbröl bus station (line 345). author
