Traditionally, the meal begins with a raisin loaf spread with butter, jam, or sauerkraut, then topped with a layer of rice pudding flavored with cinnamon and sugar. This is followed by the savory part: dark bread topped with cheese, quark, or ham. Then comes the highlight: homemade waffles with hot cherries – fresh from the waffle iron. Delicious coffee is served in the traditional way, from a Dröppelminna (a type of coffee pot).
