Auchel Fjord

Viewpoint/lookout tower
A beautiful view of the Wiehl Dam can be enjoyed from the "Auchel Fjord" viewpoint.
This lovely rest area is located on the K16 district road between Brüchermühle and Sinspert, shortly before the turnoff to Schemmerhausen. Continuing along the road towards Denklingen, you'll reach the hiking car park in Heischeid and can directly access hiking trail A1, which is approximately 5,7 km long.

The Wiehl Reservoir, with a storage capacity of 31,5 million cubic meters, serves as a source of drinking water and for flood control. Its surface area of 2,2 square kilometers lies in the center of the municipality of Reichshof. The entire catchment area of the Wiehl Reservoir covers 46,4 square kilometers.

Note: The reservoir is not open to the public and is specially protected by a ban on entering and swimming. Viewing paths along the hiking trails, the "Auchel Fjord" and "Krombacher Island" viewpoints, as well as guided hikes offered by the Aggerverband and the State Forestry and Timber Agency, provide deeper insights.
