Don't hesitate to climb to the viewing platform: A magnificent view of the Oberbergisches Land region and as far as the Siebengebirge hills and the Cologne Lowland more than compensates for the effort of the climb. The tower, built by the Ründeroth Historical Society (HVV Ründeroth), was inaugurated with a grand celebration on September 20, 1867 – just one year after the society's founding. Almost 100 years later, it required its first extensive repairs. Over the years, the towering trees obstructed the view of Ründeroth from the tower, prompting the society to add a steel extension. After several years of planning, the society celebrated the tower's extension in May 1973 with over 1.000 visitors. Another inauguration took place in May 2000 – for the "Paul Claudius Shelter," built by the HVV Ründeroth right next to the tower. In the immediate vicinity of the tower are a drinking water reservoir belonging to the Aggerverband (Agger Water Association) and a tall radio mast belonging to West German Broadcasting (WDR). In good weather, Cologne Cathedral is visible from the top of the tower.
