In the Powder Museum you can learn a lot about the production of black powder.

Over two hundred years old, "Haus Ohl," also known as "Villa Buchholz," was once the residence of gunpowder manufacturers who significantly shaped economic life in the Bergisch-Märkisch border region. The production of black powder from sulfur, saltpeter, and charcoal made them wealthy.

Today, part of the house shows how the highly explosive gunpowder was produced in the Bergisch-Märkisch border region and distributed worldwide as a firearm and explosive. In addition, the Wipperfürth Local History Society presents details from the lives of the gunpowder manufacturers, who were even visited by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1913.

The Bergisch-Mäekische Powder Museum is operated by the Wipperfürth Local History and Heritage Association.
