Oberberg Biological Station
The Oberberg Biological Station is a non-profit organization that undertakes a wide range of nature conservation tasks. Its main focus is the practical management of protected areas that are home to rare plant and animal species. This includes recording the species and habitats in the area, as well as planning and implementing measures to maintain and further enhance biodiversity.
Another area of focus is public relations and environmental education. Children, teenagers, and adults, people with and without disabilities, should have the opportunity to experience, discover, and understand nature with all their senses. The Biological Station organizes various events, activity days, exhibitions, seminars, and lectures throughout the year. On the grounds of Homburg Castle in Nümbrecht, it operates an extracurricular learning center in the Landscape House, which aims to raise students' awareness of local nature and awaken and foster their enthusiasm for ecological and sustainable topics. Furthermore, the Bergisches Naturmobil (Bergisches Nature Mobile) offers the opportunity to bring environmental education directly to people's doorsteps.
