Brückensteig – The via ferrata on the Müngsten Bridge

At a height of approximately 100 meters, the gigantic steel arch spans the green valley of the Wupper: The Müngsten Bridge is the landmark of the Bergisches Land region, it is considered a milestone of Bergisches Land industrial culture and has been setting standards of engineering throughout Europe since the end of the 19th century.

Germany's highest railway bridge, which still connects the cities of Solingen, Remscheid, and Wuppertal, is currently on its way to becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Until now, the imposing structure was reserved for rail traffic – that changed on August 1, 2021. The "Brückensteig" (Bridge Walk), developed by Deepwood GmbH from Wuppertal, has since opened the structure to the public in a spectacular way. Guided tours allow visitors to climb the arched bridge on foot, offering an up-close experience of the Bergisches Land region's industrial heritage.

777 steps to a bird's-eye view
The tour begins at Haus Müngsten, directly beneath the bridge. Whether young or old, big or small – the bridge climb welcomes everyone. Visitors are greeted in small groups by trained instructors from Deepwood GmbH, and after securing their climbing harnesses, they begin their adventure together. Using a continuous belay system, the climbing teams ascend a total of 777 steps, with the breathtaking scale of the structure unfolding with every meter. At the very top, approximately 100 meters high, the adventure culminates on a platform offering a stunning panoramic view.
