Blankenberg Castle

Historical site
Castle/Palace/Manor House
High above the Sieg River stands the medieval Blankenberg Castle, an impressive testament to the Counts of Sayn. Built between 1150 and 1180, the castle once controlled access to the Sieg Valley and surrounding regions. Today, ruins and gate towers tell of a bygone era.
Visible from afar, perched high on a rocky spur above the Sieg River, stands the medieval Blankenberg Castle. A trip to Blankenberg is like stepping back in time. Ruins and gate towers bear witness to the splendor of bygone days. The Counts of Sayn chose a prime location for the construction of their castle (1150–1180). The fortification on the treeless "blank" hill enabled the lords of the castle to control access to the Sieg Valley, the Bergisches Land region, the Westerwald, and the Siebengebirge hills.
