Bielstein Castle
The Burghaus (castle house) in the Bielstein district was built in 1720 by Christian Schmidt, a councilor and mining official of Homburg. At that time, it was the residence of Johann Friedrich Möller, the first mayor of Bielstein. Until 1901, the Burghaus served as the seat of the Bielstein municipal administration before being sold into private ownership. The city of Wiehl eventually bought the Burghaus back and used it for various purposes. In 2005, Wiehl businessman Christian Peter Kotz acquired the building and had it extensively renovated and restored. The Burghaus was opened to the public in June 2008. Since then, it has been the home of the Kulturkreis Wiehl e.V. (Wiehl Cultural Association, www.kulturkreis-wiehl.de). The association puts together a diverse program each year. The event space on the third floor hosts series of performances from a wide variety of musical genres, cabaret and comedy, children's events, and readings. Tickets are available from Wiehl-Ticket at 02262/99285. A wedding room has also been lovingly and elegantly furnished. In addition to the third weekend of each month, the town of Wiehl also offers the castle as a wedding venue during normal opening hours. Furthermore, the castle houses the music school of the Homburg municipalities and a branch of the town library.
