Burghaus Scheltensülz

Historical site
The Burghaus Scheltensülz, also known as Herrenhaus Burg Oberssülz, is located, as the name suggests, near the Sülz river in Hoffnungsthal and is privately owned.
The castle was built around 1470/72; there was probably a predecessor building.
The former moated castle is one of the oldest buildings in the Bergisches Land region and was probably originally built to protect mining operations on the Lüderich hill.
The lovingly restored architecture of the castle provides a typical example of fortifications from this period. The castle is situated amidst dense residential development between the long Bergische Landstraße in Hoffnungsthal and the almost parallel Sülz river.
An exterior viewing is possible.
