The lowland castle lies in the valley of the Waldbrölbach stream between Ruppichteroth and Schönenberg.

The history of the castle remains largely shrouded in mystery. The complex was probably first built in the 13th century. Knight's seat built. Few remnants from this period still exist, such as the Castle Fountain.

The castle is first mentioned in a document dated October 8, 1417, in connection with goods and rights in the Kirchspielegg orfIn the 15th century, the tower and other parts of the castle complex were probably built by the Lords of Scheidt built.

Today, the remaining seven-meter-high section of a castle tower is the dominant feature of the castle. Besides this, only rather modest ruins of the castle buildings remain: a roughly 23-meter-long curtain wall, a vaulted cellar built of rubble stone, and some wall foundations.
