Dürscheider Mill

The former mill building (now a residence) was built in 1775 and altered in the 19th century. An inscription in the lintel of the main entrance indicates that two brothers from neighboring Bornheim erected the original building. The inscription, which had become barely legible over time, has been carefully restored by the current owners. The original Baroque entrance door no longer exists and has been replaced with a replica.

The two-story building has a ground floor constructed of rubble stone. The gable and courtyard sides feature segmental arched windows with dressed stone frames; all windows have been replaced. The right side of the building, adjoining the entrance door, has been patched with brick. The old millrace runs beneath this section. The gable roof has also been renewed, and the gable end is covered with slate. The completely renovated interior retains the original room layout. The brick outbuildings date from the 19th century, while the associated barns date from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Dürscheid mill was operated as a mill until around 1900, and subsequently used as a farm until 1978. Since then, it has been a private residence, which the new owners (since 1997) have maintained with great dedication in accordance with historic preservation principles.
