Right on the "Balkantrasse," a cycle path on the former Opladen-Lennep railway line in the Bergisches Land region, the Evangelical Church of Hilgen-Neuenhaus runs its waffle break every Sunday. Idyllically situated in a green setting, the rest area with a snack bar offers cyclists, walkers, and other visitors a perfect opportunity to take a break. It seemed natural, therefore, to make the area even more attractive by adding fitness equipment. The city of Wermelskirchen and the TUS Wermelskirchen 07 sports club were brought on board as partners. With this equipment and the clear instructions on the station signs, the course has become a real crowd-pleaser. Young and old alike enjoy the equipment not only during the waffle break's opening hours; the balance beams, in particular, often spark friendly competitions between children and parents. The rest area and course are freely accessible at all times, leading to frequent use. Now, sports groups, for example, rehabilitation groups, use the facility regularly for strength and balance exercises.
