Genkel Dam
They are well-maintained and offer opportunities for jogging and hiking. There is also a well-signposted nature trail around the Genkel Dam.
The Genkel Dam is a drinking water reservoir located within the municipalities of Meinerzhagen and Gummersbach. The dam itself is constructed of unmortared rockfill. On the water side, it is covered with a double layer of asphalt concrete, ensuring a watertight seal. On the downstream side, the embankment has been landscaped with grass and shrubs. The dam rises 41 meters above the valley floor, has a crest length of 200 meters, and a crest width of 7,8 meters. Its storage capacity is 8,2 million cubic meters.
Since this is a drinking water reservoir, some things are not allowed here: swimming, camping and fishing without a permit.
