The local history museum, which opened in 1984, is located in a half-timbered house.
Dating from the second half of the 19th century, it offers a fascinating journey through the history of Bergneustadt and the Bergisches Land region. It vividly depicts life in bygone days in a town repeatedly ravaged by devastating fires.
The exhibitions deal with Bergneustadt's history and jurisdiction, the workplaces of craftsmen (carpenters, turners, bakers, blacksmiths, shoemakers), the residential culture of the Oberberg region in the 19th and 20th centuries and domestic workplaces from the 19th century; there is also a geological department.
Since 1991, constantly changing exhibitions have been held in an extension.
Currently, more than 100 historical to modern fire helmets from over 50 different nations are on display in the tower gallery. The oldest exhibit dates back to 1780.
Museum education programs, guided tours, including tours through the historic old town, as well as numerous special exhibitions and cultural events round off the extensive program offerings and make the museum a vibrant center in Bergneustadt.

You can get married 24/7, 365 days a year in the museum's beautiful wedding room. You can find further information here.

Baking together in the historic bakehouse
Our daily bread – a symbol of life since time immemorial
Bergneustadt boasts numerous bakeries offering a good and extensive selection of breads and cakes. And yet, more and more people are rediscovering the joys of baking their own bread. Why not do it together with others?
The Bergneustadt Local History Museum offers everyone the opportunity to use the bakehouse on a regular "baking day" together with others. Anyone wishing to participate should contact the Bergneustadt Local History Museum by phone at +49 2261 / 43184.

spinning room
Every third Wednesday of the month, starting at 16:00 PM, everyone interested in spinning with a hand spindle or spinning wheel is welcome to meet. You can spin, ask and/or answer questions, solve problems, and learn new things!
We want to show that hand spinning can be an interesting and very relaxing hobby. Participants are asked to bring a hand spindle or spinning wheel if they have one. At the first meeting, Ms. Heliane Keller, the initiator of "Die Spinnstube" (The Spinning Room), will bring hand spindles and raw wool for you to try.
The meeting is free of charge and interested parties are welcome.
