The legend of the two ponds...
Legend has it that so-called witch trials were conducted there in the Middle Ages. During these trials, the suspected women were bound hand and foot and thrown into the lake; if they sank, their innocence was proven, but if they managed to stay afloat, their fate was sealed and they were executed.

This legend is unsubstantiated. However, it is a fact that witch trials took place at the neighboring Homburg Castle – and the rest is left to the imagination.

The two ponds are idyllically and picturesquely situated below the village of Spreitgen northeast of Nümbrecht and can be reached via hiking trails.
