Historic town center Lindlar Hohkeppel
Hohkeppel has retained the charm of a Bergisches Land village over the centuries. It's always worth stopping here for a short stroll, whether on a hike, a bike tour, or even just passing through by car or campervan.
Pretty half-timbered houses renovated with great attention to detail, the church square with the church of St. Laurentius and the "White Horse", a former coachman's pub, are worth a look.
The views across the vast expanse of the Bergisches Land region, which can be enjoyed repeatedly from Hohkeppel and the surrounding high roads, are also impressive.
Hohkeppel is a wonderful starting point for a hike, for example on the "Liederweg" (Song Trail). Here, you can use your smartphone to scan, listen to, and of course sing along to old German songs on various song boards.
An important long-distance road, connecting the Sauerland region with Cologne, once ran through the village and along the entire ridge. The former inn "Weißes Pferdchen" (Little White Horse), one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the Bergisches Land region, is a testament to the old carter tradition. A cauldron over the fire used to keep a hot meal ready. The taproom with its bar offered carters and pilgrims provisions for their onward journey. Everything is still preserved in the entrance area: a 10-meter-deep well shaft, the smoke-blackened rubble stone wall of the hearth, and the former taproom. A unique feature has also been preserved: the double outhouse, which could be used by two people at once. Today, the "Weißes Pferdchen" is used for events.
