Wermelskirchen Youth Leisure Park

Almost 40 years ago, the foundation was laid for a glorious roller sports history. The very active scene and the right environment ensured that BMX and skateboarding were more than just a new trend; they became a way of life. Many still fondly remember the contests at the Kattwinkel factory, where riding was a popular activity for a long time. Unfortunately, since 2012, roller sports enthusiasts have lacked a proper meeting place, but this will change with the opening of the youth recreation park. A new era is about to begin! The youth recreation park is currently being built on the former freight yard at Zenshäuschen, conveniently located on the B51 highway and the Balkantrasse cycle path. In addition to a 460 m² multi-purpose field where streetball and roller hockey can be played, the over 900 m² skatepark will be a major attraction: Classic elements such as ledges, rails, ramps and funboxes, which can be used by skaters, BMX riders and scooter riders, are complemented by a lavish bowl, which is particularly attractive for BMX riders and will certainly draw active riders from the region to Wermelskirchen.

A place to linger
But even those who don't want to be physically active will find something to enjoy: Thanks to the numerous benches, newly planted trees and a wildflower meadow, visitors can watch the colorful activity in the youth leisure park before continuing their journey on the Panorama Cycle Path Balkantrasse.
