catholic Church of St. Margareta Olpe

Church
This beautiful church is located in the district of Olpe.
The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1896, and the completed building was consecrated in November 1897. The church was consecrated on July 1, 1904. A major renovation took place in 1926. Church painter Emonts-Alt from Aachen restored the murals. In 1898, the relics from the old church were transferred to the new one. The interior painting was carried out between 1904 and 1906 by the Cologne church painter Robert Rosenthal. The depictions on the walls above the side altars are iconographically interesting: within an architectural frame, they portray the Finding of the True Cross and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The church features a high altar with a sandstone mensa, two tracery panels, and a central projection with cross emblems. The columns have gilded capitals, and above it all is a red and gold cornice. An altarpiece with two wings and, in the center, the tabernacle with a depiction of the Annunciation on the doors. The interior of the parish church of St. Margaret, a typical neo-Gothic country church, is well worth seeing, as it is still entirely in the condition it was in after the completion of the furnishings around 1907; the paintings and architecture are beautifully preserved.
