Königsforst

In the dense greenery of the Königsforst forest, visitors lose track of time and space, immersing themselves completely in the tranquility of the woods. It's the perfect place to escape the stresses of everyday life. People in the 19th century already knew this – back then, the forest was a popular destination for city dwellers from the surrounding area. Today, the 2.519-hectare forest still offers ample space for relaxation. The well-developed network of paths invites hiking, running, horseback riding, and cycling. In the picturesque restaurants and beer gardens along the trails, visitors experience a true connection with nature. A particular highlight is the Kneipp water-treading basin, located right on the borders of Bergisch Gladbach, Rösrath, and Cologne. Even Antonius Musa recognized the healing effects of the cold water and prescribed baths in it for Emperor Augustus to alleviate his gout. Sebastian Kneipp also left his mark on the Königsforst. The naturopath prescribed his patients walking through the water in a stork-like gait. The Königsforst is also one of the largest nature reserves in Germany. Many animal species have found a home in the dense greenery of the forest.

Visitor portal Steinhaus
The barn in Steinhaus has been converted into an information center for the Wahner Heide/Königsforst region as part of the Regionale 2010 project. An extension to the barn houses a multi-purpose room, sanitary facilities, and a pellet heating system. An interactive permanent exhibition entitled "Nature Uses - Resource" provides information about the nature reserve and highlights the importance of nature for humankind.

The old forester's lodge, mostly surrounded by grassland, can be reached by public transport, stop "Technologie-Park Bergisch Gladbach". From there, the path leads across the technology park's parking lots and over a small bridge that crosses the A4 motorway to the Steinhaus entrance.

The State Forestry and Timber Enterprise, Bergisches Land Regional Forestry Office, is responsible for the Steinhaus.
