Villa Zanders Art Museum
The Villa Zanders Art Museum encompasses approximately 1.000 square meters of exhibition space across three floors. In 1992, the city of Bergisch Gladbach opened its own art museum in the Gründerzeit-era villa (built in 1873/74) originally constructed by paper manufacturer Maria Zanders (1839–1904). Since its inception, the museum has been dedicated to building a unique collection of "art on paper," which now comprises approximately 500 works by around 150 international artists. In addition, the museum hosts a diverse program of special exhibitions on various themes within the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. Monographic exhibitions of contemporary artists alternate with thematic group exhibitions. The art lending library, with its collection of approximately 1.700 prints and photographs, is one of the largest art lending services in Germany and enjoys considerable use. A particular focus of the museum is its extensive educational program for young and old, which includes lectures, guided tours, and workshops. Dr. Ina Dinter is the museum's director.
