The Gierath Forest is a wooded area crisscrossed by meandering streams and featuring large wetlands with sphagnum mosses. Beech and oak trees predominate in this forest, reflecting its natural environment.
In the wetter areas, remnants of alder swamp and marsh forest, as well as remnants of peat moss, can be found.
With its near-natural nature, the Gierrath Forest offers habitat to various animals, especially amphibians, reptiles, birds and insects.
