In the idyllic valley of the Schlingenbach, a nature reserve with numerous hiking and walking trails was designated with the aim of preserving the extensively managed valley meadows with their rare and endangered plant communities, the near-natural forests of the Siepen slopes and the undisturbed meandering stream.

- The nature reserve stretches between the Overath districts of Vilkerath and Schalken, along the Schlingenbach stream.
Parking is available in Vilkerath. From here, hiking and walking trails are recommended. author
