The Nutscheid is a wooded ridge between the Sieg and Bröl rivers and borders Waldbröl. With an area of 1500 hectares, it is one of the largest forested areas in the Bergisches Land region.
Even in Roman times, a trade route in the Rhineland led from Cologne, via Siegburg, through the Nutscheid forest and on to the Siegerland region. Besides the economic use of the forest, ores were also mined there from the Middle Ages onwards and smelted along the streams of the Nutscheid using charcoal produced in the forests.
