Castle
Off to the Middle Ages: A visit with knights and damsels
In the Burg district of Solingen, 110 meters above the Wupper River, stands the medieval fortress of Burg Castle. It was once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Berg, who gave the Bergisches Land region its name. Today, it is the most popular tourist destination in the Bergisches Land.
The Journey is the Goal
You can reach the castle via a winding road, on foot along narrow paths, or comfortably by cable car. Dangle your legs over the forest and the Wupper River and enjoy breathtaking views on your ride. Your bicycle (no e-bikes) is welcome too!
The goal is the culmination.
Once you reach the top, a medieval atmosphere is guaranteed.
Although access to the castle is somewhat restricted during the renovation, the thick walls, winding spiral staircases, and narrow battlements still offer a glimpse into what life in a medieval castle might have been like. Visitors can look forward to the reopening of the fully renovated complex in 2026.
Tip: You can relax and enjoy yourself wonderfully in the cozy cafes and restaurants around the castle.
