"Roll forward! School 1871 - today - tomorrow"
Modern teaching methods, often influenced by computers and other new media, are now commonplace in our schools. But what was teaching like in the past? What teaching materials were available? What did classrooms look like? And how were children educated?

Visit the school museum in Bergisch Gladbach and discover the fascinating school world of the past: from the hymnal to the pencil box and the slate tablet to the calligraphy book, you will find everything that used to be part of everyday life.

During your tour of the museum, experience fascinating insights into the education of girls in bygone eras, including cooking, housekeeping, needlework, and infant care, as well as teacher training and the world of historical teaching materials. Explore classrooms where all age groups were once taught together in all subjects, and where faith and the imperial family were central.

History lesson

A polite curtsy, a slight bow – "Yes, sir" – good manners were once mandatory for boys and girls. And those who obeyed received a merit card. Disobedience, on the other hand, was punished with blows from a cane.

A lesson from the time of the German Empire is a truly unique experience, whether for school groups or adults. The entertaining and original demonstration in the historic classroom combines stories and anecdotes from the lessons of that era with hands-on activities for the guests. You'll sit in historic wooden benches and learn to write your name in cursive script on a slate or to do arithmetic with an abacus. And of course, the Emperor will be honored – with songs sung together. Fun is guaranteed!
