Lindlar quarry

Craft show operation
Lindlar is "rich in stone", which is clearly visible in the quarry.
Lindlar likes to call itself "rich in stone." The history and development of the municipality have been and continue to be shaped by the rocks found in the local quarries. For many centuries, greywacke, a grey-brown to grey-green sedimentary rock, has been extracted and processed in these quarries. This natural stone is used to produce floor tiles, window surrounds, wall stones, and paving stones, and is now well-known and popular far beyond the local area.

Numerous historical buildings in and around Lindlar are built with greywacke; the most famous and visible example of this is the Catholic parish church of St. Severin in the heart of the town center.

Furthermore, impressive fossils can be found in the Lindlar quarries. These petrified remains, millions of years old, can be discovered during a fossil hunt, where visitors can explore large blocks of stone themselves using a hammer and chisel. Sections of the quarries can also be visited independently on a hike along the Stonemason's Trail. Information about the 6,2-kilometer circular hiking trail through the quarries can be found [here/on the website]. .
