Ostrich eggs in the Bergisches Land region?
Indeed. And by no means from distant lands, but from local sources: Five breeding groups in the Wermelskirchen district of Emminghausen are ensuring an ever-increasing number of offspring.

Klaus Stöcker took over his parents' farm and created optimal living conditions for exotic poultry on approximately eight hectares of meadowland.

The farm shop sells ostrich feather dusters, jewelry and lamps made from eggshells, and leather goods such as handbags and wallets. Stöcker also markets the meat, which is considered tasty, low in fat, and high in protein.

In spring, over 150 ostriches live on the 12-hectare farm in Dabringhausen, and from Easter onwards, chicks are born approximately every two weeks. Even the youngest ostriches can be observed from their third day of life. And you'll certainly find an explanation there for the black chicks. The guided tours, lasting about an hour, offer fascinating insights into these swift flightless birds and also include a visit to the bison enclosure, which welcomed its first offspring in 2017. All ostrich-related products are available in the farm shop.
