Directly behind the Wipperfürth tax office, the so-called Wupper Balcony, perched above a weir on the Wupper River, and the adjacent birdwatching station offer a good view of the Wipperfürth reservoir. Its water was formerly used for energy production and cooling. Today, the area is a nature reserve and provides a habitat for numerous plant and bird species. In this biotope, which covers approximately 33.000 square meters of water, one can, with a bit of luck, observe reed warblers, coots, or goosanders, as well as the kingfisher, which is also known as the "Flying Jewel" because of its colorful plumage.
