Wiehl Dam

Dams/Lakes
In the richly wooded surroundings, hikers will find a network of over 60 km of marked hiking trails.
Viewing paths along the drinking water reservoir offer hikers additional views of the romantically situated lake. The "Krombacher Island," familiar from radio and television, is also visible from a viewpoint. The viewpoint can be reached via the Nespen hiking parking lot at the junction of the L 324. From hiking trail A 5, which begins there, the path branches off to the right after 500 meters, just past a barrier, through the former railway embankment onto a trail. This leads past the edge of a meadow and then to the left onto a maintenance path maintained by the Aggerverband (Agger Association), which joins the main path. From there, the viewpoint is just a few meters further on.

A beautiful view of the Wiehl Dam can be enjoyed from the "Auchel Fjord" viewpoint, which was built in 2005. This lovely rest area is located on the K16 district road between Brüchermühle and Sinspert, shortly before the turnoff to Schemmerhausen. Continuing along the road towards Denklingen, you will reach the hiking parking lot in Heischeid and can directly access the A1 hiking trail, which is approximately 5,7 km long.

Guided hikes with the forester are offered year-round and provide additional views of the reservoir, as they take place on restricted paths. With plenty of explanations about the flora and fauna, participants learn all sorts of interesting facts about the reservoir area.

Due to the strict regulations that apply to a drinking water reservoir, endangered animal species have found a new home in and around the Wiehl reservoir in recent years.

The annual program of guided hikes is available at the Reichshof spa and tourist information office.
