The circular hiking trail starts in Ortsiefen.
This roughly 13-kilometer circular hike takes you around the Brölbach valley in the southern Bergisches Land region. From the hiking parking lot in Marienfelde, you hike towards Bruchhausen and Niederbreidenbach through gentle fields and past orchards.

The hills surrounding the valley offer beautiful views at every turn, and you'll find lovely picnic spots for a break here and there. If you'd prefer to stop for refreshments along the way, the Stommel restaurant in Müllerhof and the Café Alte Schule near Niederbonrath are good options. The path then curves around the valley floor and leads you back to your starting point.

Directions

  • From the alpaca farm in Ortsiefen, follow Böllweg (#20) to the right until you reach Mucher Straße. Turn right there and walk along the side of the road, then after about 150 meters turn left. Follow the path until you reach Bröler Weg, then turn left at the crossroads with the information board. (1) Turn left towards Bruchhausen. Follow the paved road to the L350 (connecting path Bergischer Weg – Bergischer Panoramasteig), cross it and turn left onto the footpath (approx. 60 m), then right onto Röttgen road (bridge over the Brölbach).
  • After about 100 meters, turn left, then right at the next opportunity. Go uphill, then take the next right at the top of the hill, following the meadow path to Niederbreidenbach. At the fork, turn left, then right through the village. (2) and follow the X28 uphill in a wide left-hand curve. At the intersection, go straight ahead, turn right at the edge of the forest, continue on the X28 through the hamlets of Wolfscharre and Hardt to the L339 (opposite the Alptermühle farm shop). Turn left there, then right at the junction with the L350, cross the Homburger Bröl and then turn left.
  • 3 Now follow the V5 marker through Hefterath, uphill at the edge of the village, turn left onto the cross path. Follow the path (V5) until you reach a paved road, turn left there, then take the next left. (4) on Wiesenweg, at the edge of the forest turn right to T-junction, there turn right to the road and on it turn left to the two-lane K 35 (opposite motorcycle meeting point “Café Alte Schule”).
  • Turn left at the road for about 60 meters, then left again onto the path and follow the A9 marker. At the edge of the woods, turn left, then take the next right, and descend on the paved road into the village of Ophausen. Turn left there, continue straight ahead through the left-hand bend, always following the A9 marker. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead (the path branches off to the left towards the Kaltenbach farm), after the left-hand bend, turn right into the valley following the A9 marker, cross the Haubach stream, turn left onto the road, and after about 60 meters turn left again, past the fishing park, then right back to the starting point.
