The :aqualon Loop is a loop trail that connects the Balkantrasse Panorama Cycle Trail in Hückeswagen going over the Bergisch hills to the Großen Dhünn valley reservoir. Along the way, there are sights like Altenberg Cathedral and the historical old town of the castle town of Hückeswagen.

The central theme of the approximately 53 kilometre long route is water. The :aqualon Loop offers magnificent views of the protected valley reservoir landscape and the wonderful natural surroundings at several points along the way. In addition to this, cyclists can also explore the region’s sights and meander along the historical traces of the water industry - for example by climbing the Hindenburg tower.

During the summer months from March to October, the “Bergischer FahrradBus”, or Bergisch bike bus, travels between Leverkusen-Opladen and Marienheide on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. For anyone who only wants to cycle a part of the :aqualon Loop, it is possible to travel back on the FahrradBus from Hückeswagen, Burscheid or Wermelskirchen. Up to 20 bikes can be transported at the same time on the bus trailer. Further information can be found at www.bergischer-fahrradbus.de.

The route gets its name from the :aqualon project, which is to combine the pillars of (water) industry, science, experience (local recreation and tourism) and teaching (extracurricular place of learning) at its competence centre at the Großen Dhünn valley reservoir. www.aqualon-verein.de
