The :aqualon loop is a circular route that connects the Balkantrasse Panorama Cycle Route and the Bergisches Land Panorama Cycle Route near Hückeswagen, crossing the Bergisches Land hills to the Große Dhünn reservoir. Along the way are attractions such as Altenberg Cathedral and the historic old town of Hückeswagen, the castle town.
The central theme of the approximately 54-kilometer route is water. The :aqualon loop offers magnificent views of the protected reservoir landscape and the beautiful natural surroundings at numerous points. Cyclists can also discover the region's sights and explore the historical traces of water management – for example, by climbing the Hindenburg Tower.
The route is named after the :aqualon project, which, with its competence center at the Große Dhünn reservoir, aims to unite the pillars of (water) management, science, experience (local recreation & tourism) and education (extracurricular learning location). www.aqualon-verein.de
