"On the Forester's Trail" - Neunkirchen-Seelscheid

From Neunkirchen, the route leads into the wooded Wendbach Valley and up to the heights of Niederwennerscheid. After the picturesque Wahnbach Valley near Hausermühle, another climb takes you to Seelscheid, one of the municipality's main towns. Parallel to the well-known thoroughfare, the ancient Zeithstraße, the path leads through meadows and fields to a viewpoint with breathtaking panoramic views. Another highlight is the Three Crowns Linden tree near Pohlhausen. The route then continues via Hochhausen and Franzhäuschen to the Umschoß estate and the Wahnbach Dam near Seligental. From Wolperath, a short ride brings you to Neunkirchen, the municipality's central town. Even from a distance, the tower of St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Neunkirchen's landmark, is clearly visible. The town offers numerous places to eat and drink, as well as e-bike charging and rental stations.

Highlights along the route:

• Wahnbach Dam: Here, a charming view of the Wahnbach Dam opens up. From the vantage point above the wooded slope, the view encompasses the lake and its dam. On a clear day, the Siebengebirge hills can be seen in the distance.
• Wayside cross Wiescheid: The richly carved, approximately 200-year-old devotional and Passion cross depicts the symbols of the Passion and religious motifs. Its coloring creates a special effect on the viewer.
• St. Margaret's Catholic Church: The centerpiece and landmark of Neunkirchen is St. Margaret's Catholic Church. Its current form dates back to origins in 1140/50. The significant paintings on the dome of the older part of the building are particularly noteworthy.
• Cathedral view: In clear weather you can see as far as the Rhine plain, where the Cologne panorama with the cathedral, Colonius Tower, Lanxess Arena and trade fair tower is clearly visible.
• Three-Crown Linden Tree: At the entrance to the village of Straßen stands an ancient linden tree, pruned to three crowns. It symbolizes the Holy Trinity and is a natural monument visible from afar.
