"Following in Müller's Footsteps" - Lohmar

The starting point is Honrath train station in Lohmar. From there, the route initially climbs uphill towards Honrath. After passing through the hamlet of Wickuhl, you reach the Schiefelbusch farm. The route then continues past Dachskuhl to the Gammersbach Mill and the impressive Sülz Castle. After the village of Bach, the now wooded path ascends to the heathland village of Altenrath and then follows the so-called Panzerstraße (Tank Road) back to Lohmar. Along the right bank of the Agger River and the Sülz River via Euelen, you rejoin the Agger Cycle Path in Donrath. Crossing a small wooden bridge, the path, always alongside the Agger, leads through woods and fields to the campsite in Peisel. Shortly before reaching the campsite, turn right towards Kreuznaaf, from where you enter the idyllic Naafbach Valley. Beyond Ingersauel, the path climbs back up to the ridge, and at Leyenhaus, it descends again into the valley – ensuring plenty of variety. From Overath, the cycle path runs along the B484 back towards Lohmar to Honrath train station.

Highlights along the route:

• Honrath Castle: The 16th-century castle building was constructed above Romanesque cellar vaults that are still preserved today. The original builders were the Counts of Hückeswagen, who also owned the church next to the castle.
• Gammersbach Mill: Located in the Gammersbach Valley, between Muchensiefen and Oberschönrath, the Gammersbach Mill was first mentioned in 1688 as a water-powered grain mill. At that time, it belonged to the noble Schönrath family.
• Sülz Castle: Today's Sülz Castle Technology Park is housed in a "new" building of a noble castle complex, begun in 1766. The former medieval moated castle of Sülz was located to the east.
• Lohmar Castle: Built by Dietrich von Blankenberg in the 14th century on the border with the County of Berg, this castle was originally a fortified moated castle. The year 1717, the year of construction of the three-winged outer bailey, is still visible in the arched gate.
• Naafbach Valley: The Naafbach Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in our region. With its side valleys and streams, between Kreuznaaf, Blindennaaf and the Heckberg Forest, the source area of ​​the Little and Great Naaf rivers, it covers an area of ​​approximately 45 km².

You can rent bicycles or e-bikes at various points along the route, including at the train stations in Honrath and Overath.
