The Bergischer Weg is Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2024!
Following the route of a hiking trail over 100 years old, the Bergischer Weg trail runs for approximately 259 kilometers in 14 stages from the Ruhr area through the Bergisches Land region to the Rhine. It begins at Lake Baldeney in Essen, leads through the "Neanderland" region, through the Bergisches Land cities of Remscheid, Solingen and Wuppertal, as well as the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis district, to the Drachenfels in the Siebengebirge hills.

The path winds its way through gently rolling hills, green forests, and alongside numerous streams, passing small half-timbered villages and significant sites of cultural history: local and industrial history museums, castles, fortresses, and churches bring the region's history and culture to life. Along the way, you can experience and discover the region's history and culture in a variety of ways.

Along and near the trails, and especially in the towns and villages along the way, you'll find our "Bergisches Wanderland Hosts," offering comfortable accommodations and places to eat and drink. From comfortable hotels and charming country inns to cozy vacation apartments, from fine restaurants to rustic beer gardens, these hosts are specifically geared towards the needs of hikers. They meet established quality criteria and bear the "Bergisches Wanderland Hosts" seal of approval, making them easily identifiable for hikers. Among other things, they provide guests with packed lunches, offer expert information about hiking tours and local attractions, transport your luggage, and pick you up from or drop you off at the trailheads.

If you hike the Bergischer Weg trail and take photos at certain locations, you can collect points and receive a hiking badge. More information is available here.

Here you will find all hosts along the Bergischer Weg.
