The combination of two cultural highlights
The sixth stage of the Bergischer Weg trail connects two cultural highlights in the Bergisches Land region, offering a lively up and down through typical Bergisches Land scenery with numerous stream valleys and panoramic viewpoints. From Altenberg Cathedral to the Baroque palace that Elector Johann Wilhelm II once had built in Bensberg, this stage leads through a diverse landscape with numerous views across the Bergisches Land and the Cologne Lowland. Along the way, a detour to the source of the Strunde River is tempting. Known as the "busiest stream in the Bergisches Land," the Strunde once powered more than 40 mills on its way to the Rhine. Some of these were paper mills, establishing Bergisch Gladbach's reputation as a paper-making town.
If you hike the Bergischer Weg trail and take photos at certain locations, you can collect points and receive a hiking badge. You can find more information here.
We would like to thank Karin Keiler, who oversees the path as a volunteer path sponsor.
Between March and October, you can also easily reach the starting point of stage 6 of the Bergisches Weg trail using the... Bergisch Hiking Bus .
Here you can find all the hosts on stage 6.

Directions
It starts right at Altenberg Cathedral and initially leads along wide forest paths through the beautiful Pfengstbach valley, before tackling the first climb up to Scheuren. The route then descends into the Scherfbach valley via field, forest, and meadow paths, and immediately climbs again to Schallemich and on to the Eikamper Höhe, where a sweeping view of the Rhine valley unfolds.
Those who enjoy climbing can make a stop at the K1 climbing park. With views of Bergisch Gladbach, the trail descends to Herrenstrunden, where not only the source of the Strunde river but also a number of cafes and restaurants invite you to take a break. Following the Strunde and the Hombach streams, the path leads up to Breite via field paths. Here, on a clear day, you'll be treated to a magnificent panorama of Cologne, including a view of the cathedral. The trail then descends to the Lerbach stream and loops through the Hardt forest, a popular local recreation area, before reaching the Milchborn valley near Bensberg.
