The Bergischer Weg is Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2024!
Stage 8 leads from Rösrath-Forsbach to Overath.

From Rösrath-Forsbach, the route leads through Hoffnungsthal along the banks of the Sülz river and up to the Lüderich hill, where the last mine in the Bensberg ore district ceased operations in 1978. Finally, in the Agger valley, the stage continues along idyllic paths and through the landscaped park of Gut Eichthal to the lively town of Overath.

If you hike the Bergischer Weg trail and take photos at certain locations, you can collect points and receive a hiking badge. You can find more information here.

We would like to thank Dieter Vierkotten, Timo Stein and Timm Schelzig, who look after the path as volunteer path stewards.

Directions

The eighth stage is a very wooded stage with a high proportion of paths and constant ups and downs. Directly from the start, the Bergische Weg leads down narrow forest paths to a small stream, up to the edge of Forsbach, down again to another small stream and up to Forsbach once more, before descending via a forest path to the Sülz river and on to Hoffnungsthal.

On the opposite side of the valley, the Bergischer Weg trail climbs steadily for two kilometers, first through residential streets, then along narrow and wide forest paths, to Lüderich (an ascent of approximately 160 meters). There, while circling the landfill, the trail crosses the Am Lüderich golf course (hikers are welcome at the golf bistro). The route continues with lively ups and downs along narrow paths and forest tracks, past Bleifeld and Durbusch to Honrath, where there is a connection to the RB 25 regional train. From there, the Bergischer Weg descends into the Agger valley, which it follows along forest paths, sometimes at higher elevations, sometimes in the valley, to the end of the stage in Overath-Broich.Other entry options:
