A culinary discovery tour around dreamy places

If you enjoy combining nature with visits to small, idyllic villages on a hike, then Hoffnungsthal is the perfect place for you. From the train station, walk through the village, always along the flower-lined Sülz River, and then follow the Bergischer Weg trail into the Königsforst forest. From there, the path climbs gently uphill. At the end of the hike, you can visit the church in Hoffnungsthal. The entire route is about eight kilometers long.

Directions

  • Turn left onto Lehmbach Street next to the Lehmbacher Hof farm. Follow the "K" marker uphill.
  • 1 About 360 meters after the forest begins, the path joins the Bergischer Weg trail. Turn left here, following the orange marker, and continue along the Bergischer Weg to the residential street Schreibershove. After about 150 meters, turn right uphill. At the milestone marker, turn left onto a path leading into the valley. Cross the stream and continue diagonally uphill to the right. At the top, turn left at the horse paddock and descend on a path into the next stream valley. Cross the stream at the bottom and continue uphill. At the top, continue straight ahead across a meadow through a small wood to Hoffnungsthaler Straße. Turn right onto this road and follow the Bergischer Weg sharply left back into the forest. Continue along the hillside, then down to Volberg.
  • 2 In the village, leave the Bergischer Weg and walk to the right on cobblestones to the Protestant church, then turn left to the main road and follow it to the left for 660 meters.
  • 3 At the intersection, turn diagonally left onto Am Hammer street, follow the "K" through the historic Reusch industrial area, and then turn left towards the Sülz dike. Follow the Sülz river to the right until you reach Bergische Landstraße, then turn left back to the starting point.
